What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is actually a Chinese Martial Art; however these days, it is mostly used as a health exercise that promotes vitality, structural balance, strength and longevity for people of all ages. It utilizes specific breathing techniques which strengthen the respiratory system and helps prevent respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. The deep breathing also stimulates the diaphragm and abdomen, which aids in digestion and helps relieve constipation and gastrointestinal conditions.
The slow, precise movements of Tai Chi strengthens the structure of the body, building strength in the muscle yet expanding flexibility, as well. As the body strengthens, ailments such as arthritis, osteoporosis and chronic pain are relieved and deterred. Proper alignment and weight shifting gives you better balance on your feet and balances the right and left sides of you body.
Tai Chi is a low impact exercise that can improve concentration and mind/body awareness.
